SHOWREEL
It has been a busy time at Luma Arcade lately! We've recently worked on numerous projects across a variety of areas from Online and Mobile games, Engine development, Tech demos, and tons of concept work to boot.

So with a target of just over a minute for our showreel, a lot of work ended up on the cutting room floor so to speak, as we tried to squeeze out the essence of what Luma Arcade is about at this given point in time.

Hope you enjoy watching!

MICROSOFT ANNOUNCES "THE HARVEST" AT GDC and MIX
BUILT WITH XNA GAME STUDIO 4.0 RUNNING ON WINDOWS PHONE 7
OVERVIEW
GENRE: ACTION RPG

In the game world, the player must fight through the decayed remnants of an ancient holy city many years after a vicious alien invasion in order to save what is left of humanity.

Luma Arcade built The Harvest demo in a few short weeks based on our graphics engine developed on the XNA Game Studio 4.0 framework. The game runs on multiple platforms including the Xbox360, Windows PC, and Windows Phone 7.

From Engadget:

"...In what was probably the most stirring demo of the event, however, Joe Belfiore [Microsoft Corporate Vice President] showed off The Harvest, a 3D Xbox title for Windows Phone 7 Series devices. We saw some of this game at GDC, but we got a much better look here at MIX. The game looks incredibly slick, with a Diablo-meets-Gundam feel, and not only does it feature full 3D, destructible environments, but it ties perfectly into Xbox Live, utilizing achievements and full gamerscore and leaderboard integration. We were a little blown away by how much it looks and feels like a true Xbox title. This could certainly be a game changer as far as the smartphone race is concerned - bringing a comparable, connected Xbox experience to a mobile device will be incredibly enticing to end users, especially those already plugged into the company's gaming ecosystem..."

From SlashGear:

"...More visually-impressive is a gaming title Microsoft called The Harvest, again built in XNA and supporting Xbox LIVE integration for keeping track of achievements, avatars and progress. Later in the demo, Major Nelson from the Xbox team showed how you can also load the game on a Windows 7 PC or on an Xbox 360 console and have the same game experience only tailored to the input device - touchscreen, mouse or pad - you're using at the time..."

TORQUE 2D ENGINE FOR THE IPHONE
CREATE 2D GAMES EASILY FOR THE IPHONE
OVERVIEW
Towards the end of 2009, Luma Arcade was contracted by GarageGames to take over the development and maintenence of the iPhone version of Torque Game Builder engine.

We were approached to take on this large task due to our experience working intimately with the Torque engine, and the quality of the titles that we have created in doing so. Since then, the engine has been renamed to fit Torque's new project line and is now called Torque 2D for the iPhone.

Focussing on the user experience, we are doing all that we can to give developers an easy to use, out of the box experience for 2D iPhone game development.

Going forward into 2010, we will be spending a great deal of energy on a complete overhaul of the engine to bring it in line with what will be on offer with GarageGames' standard Torque 2D product.
